FUTURE TRIP TO ZIMBABWE

CONTAINER NEWS

Great News!   Another container is on its way to Zimbabwe, filled with medical supplies and items for business opportunities, as well as a multitude of other items.

With an awe inspiring timing that only God can engineer, certain extraordinary opportunities arose: able people in diverse places and in different circumstances and churches, all unexpectedly connected with Zimbabwe Gecko Society, within mere days, to make the container a reality.

Once everything is in place I will share the story fully.

So astounding has provision been for the container thus far, that the only thing remaining is to raise a final $8,000 toward the shipping cost, fees, taxes, distribution, crane etc.

We would like to invite you to share in this God given ministry by making donations to EFCCM  #2-3255  from our website  www.zimbabwegecko.com, or by mailing cheques to EFCCM #2-3255 c/o  102-1744-128th Street, Surrey, V4A3V4  604-531-3654. Donations can also be dropped in our church mailbox, or in person.  Tax receipts available.

You will also have an opportunity to contribute goods to the container. HOWEVER we will NOT be collecting goods like the last container, but only the items listed below. Mostly needed are bibles, new or used (preferably not King James; Shona bibles most welcomed), new clothing items, school supplies, shoe boxes for sponsored children and teenagers.  Feel free to drop off at my home or give me a call at 604-531-3654.   Final collection date September 12th.  Yes this is happening very quickly!!

God willing Frank and I will travel to Zimbabwe in 2016 to receive and distribute goods.

The container will eventually be used as a shop for business women or as a clinic.  It all depends on where we can set it down. Either option will be a huge gift to the community.  We hope to pack the wood, windows, screws, and everything needed for its conversion inside the container.

Beautiful art will be on sale at very reasonable prices, as the idea is to support the artists with many sales as opposed to one or two high priced items.  We do not in any way want to take away from their art and creativity by lowering the prices, but with 90 to 95% unemployment rates, they have asked us to SELL so they can support themselves.

You will find beautiful hand painted tablecloths, carved wooden items, fabulous art, lovely beaded items handmade by the local children, bags, baskets, and more.   PLEASE COME OUT AND ENJOY SOME SERIOUS CHRISTMAS SHOPPING AND SUPPORT OUR ARTISTS.

FUTURE TRIP TO ZIMBABWE - January to April

Agenda:  Unloading, distribution of goods, and conversion of container. Medical mission led by Dr. Ray Markham. Women’s business led by Alison Markham. Education team: at least one person will be overseeing the educational aspect.  Our carpenters, Harry and Ross, will almost surely be traveling with us to convert the container.

This year we will be working out of the Imiri Game Park  and will be doing something a little different.

Although it is World Save the Rhino and Elephant Day on September 22nd, we also want to commit to supporting ALL the efforts at  Imiri Conservation wild animal ranch in Zimbabwe.

As you know, the ZIMBABWE GECKO SOCIETEY is a Canadian based organization whose work in Zimbabwe covers community development.  The society has a proven track record for leading one community at a time to self-sufficiency, starting with clean water then progressing to food, security, education, small business education, and health centres.   As these communities thrive and succeed, it naturally builds communities in which wildlife is valued.

Each year a team of UBC medical students, doctors, nurses, as well as educators travel to Zimbabwe with an aim of developing and improving capacity, so that locals can receive health care services in their own community. This benefits both Zimbabwe and Canada.
